Growing up in a family of leather manufacturers and exporters in India, leather seemed like the obvious choice. It was admired for its luxury, durability, and craftsmanship—and living in Europe, one of the largest markets for leather goods, the idea of trading or contract manufacturing for brands seemed like the perfect opportunity.

But sometimes, when you look closer, the truth is hard to ignore.

As I explored the industry deeper, I was confronted with the harsh reality behind leather production—the pollution, the toxic chemicals, the health hazards. It was something I had never questioned before. Determined to find a better way, I began searching for sustainable alternatives.

At first, vegan leather seemed like the answer. But while it was cruelty-free, I soon learned that most versions relied on PVC and plastic-based materials, which were just as harmful to the environment in the long run.

Months of research, effort, and hope—back to square one.

Then, I stumbled upon plant-based leather. A blog about a company offering leather made entirely from plants, with zero plastic caught my eye. And at that moment, I knew—this was the future.

Few brands had ventured into this space, but to me, it was the perfect opportunity. This wasn’t just about removing animals from the equation; it was about creating something better for all—humans, animals, and the planet.

And so, Ikon Sweden was born—not just as a brand, but as a movement toward sustainable, high-end fashion. After rigorous research, testing, and countless trials, our first collection debuted with Coconut Leather, soon followed by two more groundbreaking materials: Cactus Leather and Apple Leather.
